Vertigo

In an ambitious experiment, the idea of a temporary DANCE & FESTIVAL LOUNGE was developed to explore the boundaries of the ImPulsTanz Festival. The lounge was to serve as a central interface in the urban space, offering the possibility to establish direct contact with the audience.

The concept aimed to transform the city into a changing stage and space for experimental movement, allowing room for multi-layered artistic performances. During the day, the lounge was intended as a fleeting intervention and point of attraction for artists, city residents and passers-by. In the evening hours, it was to be transformed into an experimental stage where productions, intellectual exchanges and celebratory gatherings could take place.

At the heart of this conception was the profound interaction between performer and spectator that was the essence of this fascinating design idea. This project subtly questioned how temporary spaces could serve as catalysts for art and social connection. It invited reflection on the nature of artistic interaction and the fleetingness of the moment.

The basic idea involves the use of a perfect square, which is then arbitrarily rotated and distorted. Repeated use of this process and the layered arrangement creates captivating spatial relationships in which all orientation is lost. A state of chaos, partially related to the surrounding building site, erupts and extends into the upper part of the city, which normally stands for order, and strives upwards.

This merging of two seemingly different “worlds” is also expressed in the impulse dance piece “Unbearable Darkness”, which in a way embodies this concept. Through the dance performance, the choreographer uses technology to create a link between two spheres: reality, which stands for disorder, and the order created by man, which exists in the form of a simulation. To represent this bridge architecturally, the intention is for the building to give the impression of transforming from an ordered to a disordered form. This is to symbolise the interplay of these two aspects.
